A useful fit for

Altair is a distinctive full-size option for a room where a 30-inch listed outside width works and a clear acrylic-and-burl design is specifically wanted. The manual supports four mattress heights and both toddler-bed and daybed arrangements, but the toddler guardrail is a separate model-specific purchase.

The main tradeoff

This is a long, heavy frame by its own published dimensions and weight, the mattress is not included, and acrylic care is restrictive: avoid chemical and glass cleaners, scouring agents, and solvents. The current accessory page calls the toddler kit NW26199CA while the crib manual calls it NW26199; check the exact conversion-kit label and parts before relying on a later stage.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Is a crib mattress included with the Altair?

No. The NW26101 manual says the crib mattress is sold separately. It calls for a full-size crib mattress at least 51 5/8 by 27 1/4 inches, no more than 6 inches thick, and with no more than a 3-centimeter side gap when pushed into a corner.

Does the Altair's toddler conversion come in the crib carton?

No. The NW26101 manual says the toddler-bed conversion kit is sold separately. Its crib instructions call the kit NW26199, while the current separate Nursery Works accessory page identifies the acrylic kit as NW26199CA; confirm the exact rail model and instructions when purchasing.

What width does the Altair occupy in crib mode?

Nursery Works lists 30 inches outside width. That is the product frame dimension only; leave extra room for access, nearby furniture, delivery and any conversion work.

How should the Altair's clear acrylic be cleaned?

The NW26101 manual says to use only a very soft damp cloth on acrylic. It warns against scouring compounds, glass cleaners, chemical cleaners and solvents; use a separate clean cloth to avoid grit or chemical residue.

Research-based assessment of the manufacturer’s NW26101 listing, manual and separately listed conversion rail. No assembly, ownership or hands-on use is claimed. The exact-image edition is Clear Acrylic with Burl, SKU NW26101CKBU; the mattress visible in the photo is sold separately.

What the Altair converts into—and what it does not include

Nursery Works describes Altair as a 3-in-1 full-size crib that can be reconfigured as a toddler bed or daybed. The crib is model NW26101; the observed Clear Acrylic with Burl finish is SKU NW26101CKBU. Its product page says conversion rails are sold separately, and the NW26101 manual likewise identifies a separately sold toddler-bed kit. The current separate Nursery Works accessory page calls the clear acrylic guardrail kit model NW26199CA, while the crib manual names the kit NW26199. The product materials support a relationship between these two identifiers, but the suffix difference should be checked on the exact rail and instructions rather than guessed away.

The daybed section is also documented in the NW26101 manual, but the reviewed pages do not identify a distinct daybed-rail model. Do not assume the toddler guardrail is needed for, or included in, that open-sided setup. This is a useful crib to compare if a clear-panel design and future configuration matter, but less straightforward when a ready-to-convert, single-carton purchase is essential. On a new, used or open-box listing, match the frame label, guardrail model and hardware to the manual before treating a later arrangement as available.

Footprint, mattress and setup limits

Nursery Works lists outside dimensions of 56.25 inches long, 30 inches wide and 35 inches high, an assembled weight of 132.5 pounds, and interior crib measurements of 52 by 28 inches. The width is a product measurement, not the room envelope. Add the space needed to approach the crib, reach fasteners, move the large frame through the home and later change its configuration. The manufacturer’s weight and dimensions are planning facts, not evidence of stability, ease of assembly or durability.

The manual says the crib mattress is sold separately and calls for a full-size crib mattress at least 51 5/8 inches long and 27 1/4 inches wide, no thicker than six inches, with no more than a three-centimeter gap at the side when pushed into a corner. The image shows a mattress; that photograph does not change the written package statement. Confirm mattress labeling and the current manual together rather than relying on a generic product size or a retailer title.

Four mattress-support positions are documented. The crib warning says to lower the support when the child can pull to a standing position and to stop using the crib if the child can climb out unaided or is taller than 35 inches. The toddler-bed and daybed instructions separately specify a minimum user age of 15 months and a maximum weight of 50 pounds; those limits belong to the converted modes, not an inferred crib-stage weight rating. The manual also says two people are needed to assemble the crib. That is a real planning requirement, not a prediction that assembly is difficult.

A striking material mix with a specific care routine

The design pairs warm poplar burl veneer panels with transparent acrylic slats. The manufacturer calls out a handmade build, four adjustable levels, hidden hardware and GREENGUARD Gold certification. Those are manufacturer descriptions and claims, not independent assessment results for this review. Burl grain varies naturally, so a photo cannot promise an identical pattern on a particular carton. The visual openness of the slats is also not a measured visibility or airflow result.

Acrylic makes care a more consequential comparison than it is on an all-wood crib. The NW26101 manual directs the owner to use only a very soft damp cloth on acrylic and warns against scouring compounds, glass cleaners, chemical cleaners and solvents. A separate clean cloth is recommended to avoid grit or cleaning residue. For the wood, the manual advises a damp lint-free cotton cloth, avoiding wetting the wood, polish and cleaning sprays, and keeping it out of direct sun and near heating or air-conditioning vents. A household routine built around glass spray or abrasive polishing is a poor fit with those directions.

Who should keep Altair on the shortlist

Altair is a specific-choice product, not a general narrow-room pick: its 30-inch outside width meets a 30-inch product-width ceiling exactly, while its 56.25-inch length and 132.5-pound listed weight matter for delivery and placement. It does not match buyers who require an included standard mattress or wheels documented for the selected crib arrangement. In the current assessed library, the wood-and-ivory Novella is another 30-inch-wide full-size comparison, but it has a different support-height count and package path; its review explains the separate reading-nook cushion and an unresolved height contradiction.

Before purchase, verify the exact NW26101CKBU finish, carton and mattress status; confirm whether the separate NW26199/NW26199CA rail is the right kit for the frame; and read the current assembly and conversion instructions. The exact NW26101 name query on SaferProducts.gov returned an empty result on the check date. That narrow keyword screen cannot clear a particular serial number, used unit, lot or future notice. This assessment is desk research, not a product-use test or a substitute for current manufacturer instructions.
