Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can the Astre start as a bassinet and later become a full-size crib?
Babyletto documents an included bassinet-to-standard-crib path. The full-size crib measures 54.5 x 30.5 x 34 inches assembled. The smaller first setup does not remove the need to plan for the final footprint.
Explore this need in the finder →Are all eight Astre stages in the crib package?
The product listing says the bassinet and standard-crib/toddler conversion parts are included, but it identifies the M33379 midi conversion kit as sold separately. That extra kit adds the midi crib, midi toddler bed, and midi daybed configurations; confirm the matching finish and package contents before buying.
Explore this need in the finder →Which pad or mattress does each Astre stage use?
The bassinet package includes a 28 x 18 x 1 inch manufacturer pad; the separate midi kit includes its own custom 2-inch pad. The standard full-size crib mattress is sold separately and must meet the M33380 manual's minimum dimensions and thickness limit. These surfaces are not interchangeable.
Explore this need in the finder →What are the bassinet and junior-bed limits?
The M33380 bassinet manual says to stop at 17.5 pounds or earlier if the child can sit, stand, kneel, or roll over, or begins pushing up on hands and knees. The M33380 junior-bed warning specifies at least 15 months and no more than 50 pounds. Follow the complete instructions for the exact arrangement.
Explore this need in the finder →The Astre is a standard crib system with an unusually early bassinet stage and a design that treats the frame as nursery furniture. Its “8-in-1” description needs one important qualification: the bassinet and standard-size conversion path are included, but the three midi configurations require a separate M33379 kit. That extra purchase changes how I would compare it with an all-stages crib whose middle-stage parts arrive in the box. This is a source-based review of Babyletto’s product information and instructions, not a hands-on assessment.
Count the configurations—and the parts actually in the box
The M33380 system covers eight named arrangements across a bassinet, midi, and standard-crib size: bassinet; midi crib, midi toddler bed, and midi daybed; full-size crib, full-size toddler bed, full-size daybed, and junior bed. The main product page says the bassinet and toddler-bed conversion parts are included and describes the standard-crib-to-junior path. It separately identifies the M33379 midi conversion kit as sold separately. That kit adds the three midi arrangements and includes a custom two-inch pad. In other words, the “8-in-1” count describes the family of possible setups, not eight finished beds delivered ready to assemble in the crib carton.
For a household that only wants the bassinet followed by a standard crib, the optional midi kit is not necessary to reach those two sizes. It matters if the smaller transitional crib is a reason for choosing this model. The M33379 is model-specific and comes in its own finish-matched versions: M33379AE for Archival Elm and M33379TE for Toffee. Confirm the kit and crib SKUs together if buying a bundle, replacement part, or open-box package; a similar-looking kit from another All-Stages model is not evidence of compatibility.
A substantial frame with a more decorative profile
Babyletto lists the assembled full-size crib at 54.5 inches long, 30.5 inches wide, and 34 inches high, with a 52-by-28-inch interior and an assembled weight of 74.96 pounds. The overall size is the one to use when planning its permanent footprint; the interior measurement does not include the outer rails or decorative ends. Measure through the doorway and into the nursery, allow room around the rails for access, and leave working space for conversion. The product’s low-profile frame may be easier to reach over than a taller design, but it does not make this a narrow crib: its listed width is half an inch greater than the Yuzu M23401’s 30-inch width.
The visual identity is unusually specific. Babyletto describes real red-oak veneer over American Poplar hardwood, rounded panels, reimagined ball feet, and antique-bronze casters, developed with Nate Berkus. The product listing also claims GREENGUARD Gold certification and FSC-certified wood; those are manufacturer statements, not independent findings from this review. Archival Elm (M33380AE) and Toffee (M33380TE) are the two listed finish SKUs in the product data I checked. They are finish variations, not separately researched mechanisms.
Think about the moving stages separately
The bassinet is a compact start, but the manufacturer does not give an overall assembled bassinet footprint in the reviewed listing. The manual instead specifies the included bassinet pad at 28 by 18 by 1 inch. It also describes four casters and their locks. If movement between rooms is a priority, keep the claim narrow: the bassinet and the optional midi kit’s instructions use the original casters; that does not establish wheeled use for every later crib or bed configuration.
The separate midi kit’s listing gives a 37-by-30.5-by-34-inch assembled midi crib and two mattress-height positions. Its manual says to use the manufacturer-provided midi pad or mattress, at least 35.75 by 28 inches and no more than four inches thick, while checking the fit against the side walls. The kit package includes a custom two-inch pad; Babyletto also presents a separate branded midi mattress as an optional add-on. Do not assume the bassinet pad, midi pad, and standard crib mattress interchange.
Budget for the full-size sleep surface
The standard full-size crib mattress is sold separately, as are stage-specific sheets. The M33380 manual requires a full-size crib mattress at least 51⅝ inches long by 27¼ inches wide, with a maximum thickness of six inches. Use the exact model instructions and check the fit rather than treating the advertised interior dimensions as permission to substitute any mattress that seems close. For the bassinet, use only the included manufacturer pad and a sheet designed for it; the manual warns against extra padding. An open-box crib deserves a parts audit before purchase: the bassinet pad, rail hardware, and conversion pieces should not be assumed present because the model name lists several stages.
Read each stop rule for the arrangement in use
In bassinet mode, Babyletto’s M33380 warning calls for stopping at 17.5 pounds or earlier if the child can sit, stand, kneel, or roll over, or begins to push up on hands and knees. The full-size crib warning says to lower the mattress when a child can pull to standing and stop crib use when the child begins climbing out or reaches 35 inches. The junior-bed warning gives a minimum intended age of 15 months and maximum weight of 50 pounds. The M33379 manual separately sets a 50-pound maximum for its midi toddler and daybed modes. These limits are not a single universal rating for the assembled product; consult the instruction manual for the exact setup and the complete warning language.
Who may want the Astre, and who may not
The Astre may suit a household that values the decorative furniture finish, wants an included bassinet and standard crib in one coordinated system, and has enough room for its 54.5-by-30.5-inch final footprint. Its included bassinet pad and casters give the earliest stage a defined package. The mid-size setup can extend the sequence, but only after choosing and paying for the matching M33379 kit; count that condition in your comparison rather than treating all eight stages as included.
It is less compelling if you need a truly compact full-size crib, expect to use a midi stage but want every required part in the original box, or do not want to store conversion pieces and manuals. The frame is also a sizeable, nearly 75-pound piece of furniture according to the listing, so assembly and room placement merit planning. Babyletto’s wording describes the materials and finish process, but this desk review did not assemble, move, or load-test the crib and makes no claim about durability or day-to-day convenience.
Check the exact model before ordering
The manufacturer’s main listing identifies M33380AE as Archival Elm and M33380TE as Toffee. Its separate M33379 kit listing identifies the finish-matched midi add-on. Before buying, confirm the exact crib SKU, whether the offer includes the bassinet and standard conversion parts, whether the midi kit is actually part of the bundle, and which pads or mattress are supplied. Check the official M33380 product listing, the crib manual, the bassinet manual, and the separate M33379 kit page for the specific package you are considering.
