babyGap Charlie 6-in-1 Convertible Crib review

A documented full-size crib with three mattress-support positions and sequential toddler-bed, daybed, sofa and full-size adult-bed configurations. The standard crib mattress and conversion hardware are separate checks, and the listed 54.25-inch width is not room clearance.

A useful fit for

A candidate when a documented full-size crib is the required starting arrangement, the sequential later modes are useful and a 54.25-inch listed frame width is within the measured product-width limit. This does not establish room access or clearance.

The main tradeoff

The standard crib mattress and the W173726 toddler/daybed/sofa rail are separate; adult-bed conversion needs separate rails or a metal bed frame. Confirm the exact unit label, supplied manual and seller package before assembly or conversion.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

At what finder width ceiling does the listed Charlie W173150 full-size crib first fit?

Delta lists the assembled frame at 54.25 inches wide. Since the finder moves in half-inch steps, 54 inches is below the listed width and 54.5 inches is the first selectable ceiling that admits it. The filter compares the outside crib dimension only; separately plan access, room and conversion clearance.

Does the standard Charlie W173150 crib package include its full-size mattress?

No. Delta says the standard-size crib mattress is sold separately. Booklet A specifies a minimum 27 1/4 by 51 5/8-inch crib mattress no more than 6 inches thick; those are fit limits, not evidence that the mattress comes in the box. Check an exact seller bundle separately.

Which Charlie conversions require separate equipment?

Delta documents toddler-bed, daybed, sofa, full-size bed with headboard and footboard, and full-size bed with headboard-only configurations after the crib. The W173150 Booklet A identifies W173726 for toddler/daybed/sofa and W173750 conversion rails for an adult bed; the retailer also may use a standard full-size metal frame for the headboard-only route. These are sequential builds, and the needed rail/frame is not included in the base crib description. Match the frame label to its own instructions.

What are the support-height and crib-stop instructions?

The W173150 Booklet A describes three support positions. With the mattress at the highest setting, keep the top of the front side at least 3 inches above the mattress; lower the support when a child can pull to standing. Stop using the crib when the child begins to climb out or reaches 35 inches, whichever happens first. Follow the instructions supplied with the exact crib unit.

This is a source-based assessment of the U.S. babyGap Charlie W173150, not a hands-on review. I did not assemble, own or test a sample, inspect a shipping carton, or measure a nursery. I compared Delta Children’s exact product records with the manufacturer-linked W173150 Booklet A. The central buying question is not the “6-in-1” label by itself; it is whether the full-size crib footprint, mattress rules and separately sourced conversion hardware match the arrangement you actually plan to use.

A full-size crib first, not a compact sleep space

Delta lists Charlie at 54.25 inches wide, 29.75 inches deep and 34 inches high, with a listed product weight of 42.55 pounds. Its width is the same as the babyGap Tate W174130 in this library, while Charlie’s listed depth is one inch shorter; that is a comparison of manufacturer dimensions, not a conclusion about easier placement. The finder advances in half-inch width steps, so Charlie first fits a 54.5-inch ceiling: a 54-inch answer is too small for the listed 54.25-inch frame. Neither threshold includes space for getting beside the crib, opening a door, converting the frame or moving the package into the room. Check all of those independently.

Charlie is documented as a standard full-size crib. The reviewed product page and W173150 manual do not establish a mini crib, bassinet or midi crib arrangement, or manufacturer-documented wheels. Those are meaningful exclusions if your starting need is a smaller sleeping surface or a wheeled configuration—not missing feature claims to fill in from another babyGap model.

Six named arrangements require six separate decisions

Delta describes the initial crib plus a toddler bed, daybed, sofa, full-size bed with headboard and footboard, or full-size bed with headboard only. These are sequential assemblies that use parts of the crib and added conversion equipment; they are not six places to sleep at once. The later adult-bed stages are a real distinction from W174130 Tate, whose reviewed materials document crib, toddler bed, daybed and sofa arrangements but not an adult-bed conversion. Families who only need a crib may not value that extra route enough to plan and store the additional parts.

For toddler-bed, daybed and sofa setups, Booklet A identifies guardrail/conversion style W173726 and requires the conversion rail; those later arrangements also require the mattress support in its lowest position. The manual names W173750 conversion rails for a full-size adult bed with headboard and footboard. Delta’s description also names a standard full-size metal bed frame for its headboard-only arrangement. None of those conversion systems is part of the base crib package described on the product page. Verify the rail or frame style against the exact crib label and the instructions that come with that unit; a similar-looking rail is not proof of compatibility.

Mattress fit and support settings deserve their own check

Delta says its standard-size crib mattress is sold separately. Booklet A specifies at least 27 1/4 inches wide by 51 5/8 inches long and a maximum thickness of 6 inches for crib use. The toddler-bed section gives the same minimum width and length but a 5 3/4-inch maximum thickness. Do not treat those measurements as evidence that a mattress is in a seller bundle, and do not reuse one stage’s maximum-thickness limit for another.

The manual describes three mattress-support positions. In the highest setting, it calls for the top of the front side to remain at least 3 inches above the top of the mattress; if that clearance is not present, lower the support. When a child can pull to standing, use the lowest setting. Delta’s instructions say to stop using the crib once the child begins to climb out or reaches 35 inches in height, whichever comes first. The toddler-bed directions add a minimum age of 15 months and a maximum user weight of 50 pounds. These are the manufacturer’s written instructions, not results of testing this crib or child-specific medical advice.

Finish history and source claims

The captured U.S. Cribs collection record identifies Bianca White W173150-130. Delta’s separate W173150 detail record lists Navy W173150-1474, Blush Pink W173150-1379 and Grey W173150-026 and said that record was no longer available when checked. I retained the separate page and all exact variant identifiers, but its status is not a statement about third-party inventory. The current and separate records link W173150 Booklet A instructions; the inspected manuals have the same extracted text. No evidence in these records establishes a different crib mechanism or footprint by finish.

Delta describes New Zealand pine and poplar and claims GREENGUARD Gold and JPMA certification. Those are manufacturer statements; I did no material, emissions or safety testing. A narrow SaferProducts.gov search for W173150 returned an empty array. That query is not a complete review of a model, label, lot, serial number or manufacture date, and it is not a safety clearance. For a used crib, identify the exact frame label, compare it with its instructions, inspect for damaged or missing parts and check relevant current safety information before use.

When Charlie belongs on a shortlist

Keep Charlie in the comparison if a full-size crib is the required first setup, 54.25 inches is within your measured product-width limit, and you have a concrete reason to preserve one or more later arrangements. It is a poor match if you need a mini, bassinet or midi configuration, require documented wheels, or need the standard crib mattress built into the base package. The adult-bed route adds a separate rail system or frame rather than turning the six configurations into a ready-to-use package.

Before purchase, confirm the exact W173150 SKU and finish on the offer, what the seller actually includes, which mattress will meet the crib and any planned toddler-bed limits, and whether the required W173726 or W173750 hardware is available and compatible. Before assembly or conversion, compare the physical frame label and supplied manual; the captured Delta booklet is revision R2 dated February 21, 2023, and a used unit may have different paperwork. Finally, map the 54.25-by-29.75-inch crib footprint in the room and separately plan access, conversion and delivery clearances.
