A useful fit for

A full-size crib for a household that will use the documented two under-crib drawers and has measured room for drawer access as well as the crib's 29.5-inch outside width.

The main tradeoff

Bento is a comparatively heavy full-size crib with drawer clearance needs; it does not document a smaller sleep mode or wheels, and mattress-in-carton inclusion is unconfirmed.

This is a source-based assessment of Babyletto’s Bento M21601, not a hands-on review. Its distinction is practical and specific: a standard full-size convertible crib with two under-crib storage drawers and an included toddler-bed rail. Those drawers add built-in storage to the crib footprint, but they do not change the sleep-surface size or turn the model into a smaller configuration.

Separate the sleeping setup from the furniture storage

The manufacturer page identifies the M21601 as a 3-in-1 convertible storage crib and lists White M21601W, Washed Natural M21601NX and Natural Walnut M21601NL. The archived product data showed the Natural Walnut variant unavailable on October 29; that record is a dated observation, not a durable stock statement. The reviewed functional family is the same standard crib across those finish variants. Its product copy describes the two drawers and the included toddler conversion kit; the manual also shows the drawer parts and crib conversion instructions.

Babyletto documents full-size crib, toddler-bed and daybed arrangements. It does not establish a mini crib, bassinet, midi crib or wheeled setup for M21601. That makes Bento a different problem-solving choice than a compact bassinet-to-crib system: the relevant question is whether the storage furniture and ordinary full-size crib fit your room, not whether it can begin with an infant-sized mode.

Drawers solve one storage problem and create a clearance check

The two drawers are the M21601’s standout feature. The assembly booklet includes separate drawer and glide components, so a buyer should check that the drawer hardware is present on a used or open-box unit and assemble the pieces as instructed. Before choosing it, measure the usable area not only for the assembled frame but for opening the drawers, reaching their contents, moving around the crib, and converting it later. The published footprint does not tell you whether a drawer will clear a rug, baseboard, wall, or neighboring furniture in your room.

Footprint, mattress and transition limits

Babyletto lists the assembled M21601 at 53.5 inches long, 29.5 inches wide and 36 inches high, with an interior crib area of 52 by 28 inches, a four-position mattress support, and a listed assembled weight of 92 pounds. The 29.5-inch width ties the Palma M15901 within this small comparison group, while Bento is heavier and includes the drawer structure. That comparison is about the manufacturer’s listed dimensions and features; it is not a claim about ease of moving either crib.

The page recommends a standard mattress at 52 by 27.75 inches. The M21601 manual specifies at least 51⅝ by 27¼ inches, maximum thickness of 6 inches, and no side gap greater than 3 cm. It also instructs the caregiver to lower the mattress support when the child can pull to standing, and to stop using the crib if the child begins climbing or reaches 35 inches. The manual’s 15-month/50-pound instruction accompanies toddler-bed conversion, so it is not treated here as a crib-stage limit.

The archived page shows mattresses as add-ons and does not clearly establish a standard mattress in the M21601 carton. Do not assume package inclusion from the crib’s 3-in-1 label. Check the exact seller’s written bundle, verify the mattress dimensions and thickness against the manual, and match any replacement rail or hardware to M21601 rather than a visually similar Babyletto model.

Manufacturer claims and missing evidence

Babyletto describes sustainable New Zealand pine and says the product is screened for emissions to meet GREENGUARD Gold. Those are manufacturer claims; this review did not independently test materials, emissions, construction, drawer operation, or assembly. The pages reviewed do not establish a mattress-included configuration or wheels, and the cabinet-style storage does not add another sleep stage.

Who should shortlist the Bento?

Bento is worth comparing when you already want a full-size crib, would use the integrated storage, and can reserve the room needed both for the crib and for drawer access. Its documented two-drawer arrangement and included toddler rail are more decision-relevant than its “3-in-1” count. A shopper who does not need under-crib storage may prefer to compare a simpler full-size frame, while a shopper who needs a bassinet, midi, mini, or manufacturer-documented wheels should not treat Bento as a match for that condition.

Before purchase, confirm the exact M21601 finish SKU and carton contents, including drawers and toddler rail; verify a mattress bundle rather than assuming one; measure drawer extension and room clearance; and keep the manual with the crib. A narrow M21601 query on SaferProducts.gov returned an empty result in this research snapshot, not a product clearance or substitute for current notices and the history of an individual used crib.
