A useful fit for

A plausible choice if a conventional full-size crib, an arched headboard and documented toddler, daybed and adult-bed arrangements suit the room and the household is prepared to source the separate conversion pieces.

The main tradeoff

At 30.5 inches wide and 43.75 inches tall, the assembled frame is a substantial item; the standard mattress and M12599/M5789 conversion pieces are separate, and the pictured package does not establish carton contents.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

How wide is the Charlie M12801 full-size crib?

DaVinci lists the assembled M12801 at 54.75 by 30.5 by 43.75 inches and 58 pounds. The width is the outside product dimension; room access and conversion workspace are additional.

Does Charlie M12801 have a later full-size crib stage?

The M12801 begins as a full-size crib and the exact product listing documents toddler bed, daybed and full-size bed conversions. M12599 toddler rails and M5789 adult-bed rails are separate; the adult bed is not itself a crib stage.

Does the base M12801 offer include a standard crib mattress?

The manufacturer presents mattress choices separately. Treat the standard full-size mattress as not included unless the exact package says otherwise, and follow the M12801 manual's 51 5/8-by-27 1/4-inch minimum, 6-inch maximum thickness and 3-centimeter gap limit.

DaVinci’s Charlie M12801 is a full-size crib with a curved headboard and separate toddler- and adult-bed conversion parts. This assessment is limited to that exact model code and the current U.S. manufacturer listing, its product data, matching manual, conversion table, and a narrow model-code recall search. It is not the Charlie folding portable mini crib, the mini-crib changer, or the full-size changer combo. I did not assemble, own, measure, or test this crib.

Keep the Charlie model codes separate

The observed collection row is manufacturer product 799816614005, model M12801. Its color data lists Chestnut, White, Ebony, Grey, Espresso, Forest Green, Honey, and Light Sage, with some finishes currently shown unavailable in the captured product data. The listing does not establish a functional difference among the finishes. This review’s image identifies the Chestnut M12801CT crib; it should not be used to identify the M12898 folding mini version or the M12891 changer combination.

That distinction matters because a family name alone can hide very different furniture. M12801 is a full-size crib at 54.75 inches long, 30.5 inches wide, and 43.75 inches high. DaVinci lists 58 pounds assembled and a 52-by-28-inch interior. The 30.5-inch outside width passes a 30.5-inch finder ceiling but not a 30-inch one. A listed product width does not include space to reach the crib, bring it through a doorway, or work around the frame while converting it.

A familiar crib-to-bed sequence, with separate parts

The product page documents a full-size crib, toddler bed, daybed, and full-size bed. DaVinci identifies the M12599 toddler rail and M5789 adult-bed conversion rails as separate purchases. The current conversion table also maps those kits to M12801. The count describes different assemblies over time; it does not say that the toddler rail or adult-bed parts arrive in the base carton. The sources reviewed do not establish an additional universal support-board requirement for this model, so check the exact current instructions and accessory package rather than buying a part based on another Charlie crib.

The crib has four listed mattress-support positions. The manual says to lower the support when the child can pull to standing and to stop crib use when the child begins to climb out or reaches 35 inches in height. Its toddler-bed section sets a minimum age of 15 months and maximum weight of 50 pounds. These are different stages with different instructions; a conversion “4-in-1” label is not a substitute for checking when to stop using the crib.

Match the mattress to the M12801 manual

The standard full-size crib mattress is presented as a separate choice on the manufacturer page, so the base offer should not be presumed to include one. The exact M12801 manual calls for a full-size crib mattress at least 51⅝ inches long and 27¼ inches wide, with a maximum thickness of 6 inches. It also warns that the side gap must not exceed 3 centimeters in its specified check. A retailer’s generic “standard size” label is not enough if the mattress fails the manual’s fit requirements.

DaVinci describes New Zealand pine and TSCA-compliant engineered wood and claims GREENGUARD Gold certification. Those claims are attributed to the manufacturer; this review did not test materials or emissions. The M12801 keyword query to SaferProducts.gov returned an empty response. That limited search says nothing about a particular unit’s age, serial number, condition, or whether another product code is affected. If you are evaluating a used or old-stock crib, identify the model label and inspect the parts and instructions independently.

Where Charlie M12801 may fit

This model is a reasonable one to compare if you want a full-size crib now, value the arched headboard, and expect to source the named conversion parts later. Its 30.5-inch listed width is half an inch wider than the separate Shea M27242 at 30 inches, while M27242’s documented junior-bed route is not an adult full-size-bed conversion. Conversely, this Charlie has no documented wheels; a different DaVinci model’s casters do not transfer to it.

Before purchase, verify M12801 and the exact finish suffix, decide whether the base offer includes only the crib or a clearly itemized bundle, and check the mattress against the manual. If the later toddler or full-size-bed routes matter, confirm the M12599 or M5789 parts and instructions for the exact frame. Measure doorways and maneuvering space separately from the listed assembled width, and retain the model-specific manual. The most useful comparison is the actual frame and parts you can verify, not another Charlie listing with a similar name or a retailer’s generic conversion count.
