Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can the Colby GROW begin as a bassinet and later become a full-size crib?
Yes. DaVinci lists the bassinet and full-size crib in one F11980 system. The bassinet is 29.25 by 20.75 by 35 inches in the F11980NX dimension graphic; the full crib is 55 by 29.5 by 32 inches. Each stage is assembled separately.
Explore this need in the finder →Does F11980 meet a 29.5-inch full-size width ceiling?
The standard full-size crib is listed at exactly 29.5 inches wide, so it meets a 29.5-inch maximum. Allow separate space for room access and conversion work; the listed width is not the entire installation footprint.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the base Colby GROW package include a full-size crib mattress?
No. The product page says the mattress is not included, while the package includes a one-inch bassinet pad. Use that supplied pad only in bassinet mode and follow the separate full-size mattress measurements in the manual.
Explore this need in the finder →Are wheels documented for the full-size crib mode?
DaVinci lists a full-size crib-with-wheels configuration as well as a separate stationary full-size crib setup. The maker describes removable locking casters. Check the exact F11980 manual and install the wheels only in the documented arrangement.
Explore this need in the finder →A real sequence, not six simultaneous beds
The Colby GROW F11980 is the Carter’s by DaVinci system in the official listing titled “6-in-1 Convertible Bassinet to Crib.” Its six named setups are a portable bassinet, a standard full-size crib, that crib with wheels, a daybed, a junior bed and a full-size bed. The standard crib and crib-with-wheels count as separate configurations; they are not proof that every other mode rolls. The F11980 is not the Colby F11951 full-size crib with a trundle, the F11901 low-profile model or the F11981 mini crib. Each appears as a distinct manufacturer product record.
The manufacturer groups Washed Natural F11980NX, Light Sage F11980LS and Walnut F11980L in this one product family. No finish-specific mechanical difference is established by the product data or reviewed manual. For the primary image, this assessment uses the exact F11980NX Washed Natural crib image. The gallery also supplies a dimension image for that code: its bassinet arrangement is labeled 29.25 by 20.75 by 35 inches. The ordinary full-size crib is listed separately at 55 by 29.5 by 32 inches and 39.5 pounds, with a 52-by-28-inch interior.
The early bassinet has strict limits and its own pad
The bassinet is the unusual part of this system: the product page describes a removable locking-caster base and four height options in that stage. It also says the package includes a one-inch bassinet pad and the hardware for the other non-full-size-bed conversions. Height adjustability is a feature of the bassinet arrangement, not evidence that a crib can be attached safely to every adult bed. Follow the exact F11980 instructions for placement and setup rather than assuming bedside compatibility from the marketing copy.
The manual restricts the bassinet to the supplied pad; it says not to add another mattress, pillow or padding. Stop using it when the child can roll, sit, stand or kneel, pushes up on hands and knees, or reaches 17.5 pounds—whichever comes first. The rolling bassinet is not a license to move an occupied setup unless the manual permits that exact use. Those stop conditions apply to bassinet mode and are more specific than the broad age ranges on the product page.
When the frame is assembled as the full-size crib, the maker lists four support positions. The manual says to lower the support when the child pulls to standing and stop crib use at climbing or 35 inches tall. It requires a full-size mattress at least 51⅝ by 27¼ inches, no thicker than 6 inches, and with a side gap of no more than 3 centimeters under its test. The manufacturer says the regular crib mattress is not included; only the one-inch bassinet pad is part of the described base package.
Wheels belong to documented setups
The listing specifically names both a bassinet with casters and a full-size crib arrangement with wheels. It describes the casters as removable and locking. That lets this fact record distinguish three separate plans: a wheeled bassinet, a stationary full-size crib, and a full-size crib with wheels. A requirement for “wheels in the selected mode” should only be met by the first or third plan; choosing the standard full-size crib does not inherit wheel support from the bassinet photo or from another assembly.
DaVinci says the package contains the parts for the other conversion stages except the full-size bed parts. The M5789 full-size-bed kit, full-size mattress and M26058B bunkie board are listed separately. The manual supports the junior-bed route; no separate mini or midi crib size is named in this F11980 evidence. The full-size bed is a later furniture configuration, not a full-size crib stage. Check the exact label and included hardware, especially for open-box or used offers, because a six-configuration title does not confirm every part is present.
Good fit, with more assembly and mode management
The Colby GROW makes sense for a household that genuinely wants a manufacturer-documented bassinet first and a full-size crib later, and values the option of keeping wheels on the full-size crib. At 29.5 inches wide, its full-size crib is among the narrower listed full-size models reviewed here. That number is the outside product width, not the room clearance, route through a doorway or area required to reconfigure the frame. The bassinet dimension is slightly different, so use the correct mode's diagram when planning where it will stand.
The tradeoff is complexity: one frame requires distinct fastener arrangements, a supplied bassinet pad with strict stop conditions, a standard crib mattress purchased separately and an optional bed-conversion kit plus support board for the full-size bed. The manufacturer describes solid New Zealand pine and TSCA-compliant engineered wood and claims GREENGUARD Gold certification; those claims were not independently verified here. The exact F11980 recall-code query returned no records, which is only a narrow database screen.
F11980 is a more stage-diverse product than the trundle-equipped F11951, but it does not replace that model's built-in storage. It is also separate from the full-size-only Colby F11901. Read the F11980 manual before selecting a bassinet or wheeled crib setup, confirm the exact F11980 suffix, and count the mattress and later bed kit separately. The assessment uses manufacturer records and instructions; it does not claim physical assembly, testing or personal use.
