DaVinci Shea M27242 5-in-1 Convertible Crib to Junior Bed review

A 30-inch-wide full-size crib with toddler, daybed and junior-bed arrangements; its manual-supported junior-bed path is not an adult full-size-bed conversion.

A useful fit for

A plausible choice for a household starting with a full-size crib that wants a documented junior-bed route and does not need the adult full-size-bed conversion documented on the separate Shea M27201 model.

The main tradeoff

The crib is 57.2 pounds assembled and the 30-inch listing is only an outside product width. Its standard mattress and M12599 conversion parts are separate; the 5-in-1 count does not mean five simultaneous beds or an adult full-size-bed route.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

How wide is the Shea M27242 full-size crib?

DaVinci lists M27242 at 55.25 by 30 by 35 inches. Its 30-inch assembled width is the product dimension, not room clearance, access, or conversion space.

Does this Shea 5-in-1 include an adult full-size-bed stage?

No adult full-size-bed conversion is documented for M27242. The page and manual describe crib, toddler, daybed, junior bed, and guarded junior-bed arrangements; that is distinct from the M27201 Shea 4-in-1 adult-bed route.

Does the base Shea M27242 crib package include its full-size crib mattress?

The manufacturer presents the mattress with a separate bundle choice. Do not assume the standard crib mattress comes in the base carton; verify any exact seller bundle and use the M27242 manual's size, thickness, and side-gap instructions.

Are wheels documented on the M27242 full-size crib?

No wheels are documented for the M27242 full-size crib in the product listing or instructions reviewed here. Do not infer portability from another DaVinci model.

DaVinci’s Shea M27242 is a full-size crib system with a later junior-bed route, not a re-labeled M27201 or an adult-bed conversion in disguise. This assessment uses the current U.S. product page and product data, the linked M27242 manual, and an exact model-code recall search. I did not assemble, own, measure, or test the crib; the dimensions below are the manufacturer’s listed figures.

Start with the model number, not the Shea name

The exact product record is DaVinci product 10245621383417, model M27242, sold in Light Sage/Honey and Warm White/Honey finish variants. The reviewed listing places both colors under one model, without evidence that a finish changes the frame or conversion sequence. Its manufacturer image here shows the M27242LSHY Light Sage/Honey crib; it does not show the earlier Shea M27201 4-in-1.

That distinction matters. The older M27201 is listed at 55 by 30.5 by 45 inches and has a documented adult full-size-bed route. M27242 is listed at 55.25 by 30 by 35 inches and uses a different manual. The M27242 page describes a crib, toddler bed, daybed, junior bed, and junior bed with a guardrail. I found no adult full-size-bed configuration for this SKU. A shared Shea collection name and coordinated appearance are not enough to carry one model’s dimensions, parts, or bed conversion over to the other.

A more compact listed width, but still a full-size frame

The M27242’s assembled footprint is listed as 55.25 inches long, 30 inches wide, and 35 inches high; DaVinci gives its assembled weight as 57.2 pounds and interior crib dimensions as 52 by 28 inches. Thirty inches is a useful outside-width comparison, and on this finder’s half-inch steps it is a selectable threshold. It is not the space needed to carry the frame into the room, open drawers or doors nearby, or work around the crib while it is converted. Check those separately against your floor plan.

The product page lists four mattress-support positions and says to lower the support as a child grows. The manual’s crib warnings say to stop using the crib when the child begins to climb out or reaches 35 inches in height. Those are model instructions, not an estimate of when a particular child will be ready for another sleep setup.

Its junior-bed sequence is the main difference

The manual illustrates several arrangements that the product page summarizes as five-in-one. The M27242 starts as a full-size crib, then offers a toddler bed, daybed, junior bed, and junior bed with a guardrail. The toddler rail is the separately identified M12599. The manual also calls for that kit in the guarded junior-bed arrangement, so check the exact instructions and parts list rather than assuming the rail is in the crib carton. The junior-bed instructions set a minimum user age of 15 months and a maximum user weight of 50 pounds.

This can be a useful sequence for a family that wants a named junior-bed arrangement without needing an adult full-size bed conversion. The tradeoff is that “five-in-one” describes alternate assemblies over time, not five simultaneous sleep surfaces or a guarantee that every part is included. No bassinet, midi crib, mini crib, or wheels are documented for this model.

Mattress details deserve their own package check

The current page promotes a separate bundle with a mattress and conversion kit; I would not treat the standard full-size crib mattress as included in the base M27242 offer. The manual specifies a full-size crib mattress at least 51⅝ by 27¼ inches, no thicker than 6 inches, with a side gap no greater than 3 centimeters under its stated check. Match the mattress and the gap to the M27242 manual, not just to a retailer’s generic “full-size” label. A photograph or optional bundle is not proof of the contents of a particular seller’s carton.

DaVinci describes the frame as solid New Zealand pine with TSCA-compliant engineered wood and claims GREENGUARD Gold certification. These are manufacturer statements, not independent material analysis or a test by this review. The exact M27242 keyword request to the CPSC’s SaferProducts.gov recall endpoint returned an empty list; that narrow search is not a serial-number, date-code, lot, or unit clearance. For an older or secondhand crib, inspect its label, instructions, hardware, and current recall information rather than relying on this limited query.

Who should compare it—and what to verify

Consider M27242 if a full-size crib at a listed 30-inch width and an eventual junior-bed path match your space and plans. Compare it directly with the M27201 only after deciding whether the adult-bed route on M27201 is actually important. If it is, the similar name is not a reason to assume M27242 can do the same job.

Before ordering, confirm the label says M27242 and the exact finish suffix, check whether the offer is the base crib or a clearly itemized bundle, and verify the mattress and M12599 rail separately. Preserve the assembly instructions and check every fastener and component. The maker’s own page calls out separate parts; the useful question is not just how many stages a product names, but whether the exact configuration, sleep surface, and pieces you need are actually supported and present.
