Setup and transitions
Match each crib mattress to the exact stage
Convertible furniture changes form, but its sleep-surface instructions do not become universal. The product name may describe several modes while the manual gives a separate pad or mattress rule for each one.
Identify the mode before selecting the mattress
Start with the exact assembly configuration—bassinet, mini or midi crib, standard full-size crib, toddler bed or another named arrangement. Find the corresponding manual section and note the accepted mattress or pad, its dimensions and its maximum thickness. A value for one section must not be copied into another section by assumption.
Take “sold separately” literally
Conversion rails and sleep surfaces are different package questions. A listing can include the structural conversion kits while a standard crib mattress remains a separate item. Likewise, a manual can name a manufacturer-supplied pad without establishing that an open-box offer still contains it. Check the precise seller package and the exact SKU.
Do not add a layer to solve a gap
When instructions specify a particular pad or mattress, follow that specification. Do not use a pillow, comforter, extra mattress or improvised padding to make a product feel softer or to fill space. If a surface seems loose or leaves a gap, stop and verify the model, configuration and approved part rather than improvising.
Check transition limits separately
The stop point for a bassinet may depend on weight and developmental milestones. A crib may have a standing, climbing or height-related cutoff. A later junior bed can have a minimum user age and maximum weight. These limits can all appear in one convertible product manual because each arrangement is different.
The Babyletto Yuzu M23401 manual illustrates those distinctions: it gives the bassinet a 17.5-pound maximum and earlier stop conditions, a separate midi-pad warning, and full-size crib and junior-bed instructions. Astre M33380 follows a different package plan: its included bassinet pad, separately sold midi kit's pad, and standard full-size mattress are distinct surfaces, with their own manuals and limits. These are model-specific examples, not interchangeable rules; consult the M23401 manual, the Yuzu assessment, and the Astre assessment for their complete source contexts.
