A useful fit for

A plausible fit for a household that wants a full-size crib at the outset, a tall paneled two-tone look and documented later toddler, daybed and full-size-bed arrangements, while leaving room for separately purchased conversion parts.

The main tradeoff

The listed 30.5-inch width and 45-inch height are relatively substantial, the assembled frame weighs 56.21 pounds, and the mattress, toddler rail, adult-bed rails and support board are separate from the base crib offer.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

What full-size footprint should be planned for the Shea M27201?

DaVinci lists the assembled crib at 55 by 30.5 by 45 inches, with a 52-by-28-inch interior. The outside width first clears the finder’s half-inch grid at 31 inches; room clearance and access are additional.

Does Shea M27201 convert beyond the crib?

The exact 4-in-1 M27201 listing documents toddler bed, daybed and full-size bed arrangements. It identifies M12599 toddler rails and M5789 bed rails separately; the full-size bed also lists M26058B support board separately.

Does the standard mattress come in the base Shea crib package?

The product page presents mattress choices as separate add-ons. Its manual gives the required full-size dimensions and a maximum 6-inch mattress thickness; confirm the exact seller package before treating any mattress as included.

Can Shea M27201 be rolled in its full-size crib setup?

The reviewed M27201 product page and manual do not document wheels for the selected full-size setup. Do not infer portability from other DaVinci products or from the separate Colby GROW.

Identify M27201, not just “Shea”

This assessment covers the DaVinci Shea 4-in-1 M27201 in two finishes: Light Sage/Honey M27201LSHY and Warm White/Honey M27201RWHY. The product data places both under one crib record and supplies no evidence of a finish-based change to the mechanism or dimensions. The maker also lists a Shea 5-in-1 Convertible Crib to Junior Bed; that is a separate observed catalogue row and is not silently merged into this M27201 review. Confirm the model code on the actual unit and any accessory before relying on this assessment.

The design has a tall, paneled headboard and two-tone trim, which gives it a more furniture-like presence than a plain rail crib. DaVinci lists outside dimensions of 55 by 30.5 by 45 inches and a 56.21-pound assembled weight. The interior is 52 by 28 inches. The height and 30.5-inch width matter for fitting through a room, alongside dressers or under sloped ceilings; the outside width is only the crib itself, not usable clearance or the work area needed to change stages.

Full-size crib first, then separate conversions

M27201 starts as a standard full-size crib. Its product page lists four mattress-support positions and says to lower the support as the child begins to sit and stand. The manual warns to stop crib use when the child begins to climb out or reaches 35 inches tall. It requires a full-size crib mattress at least 51⅝ inches long and 27¼ inches wide, no more than 6 inches thick, and no side gap over 3 centimeters under the stated push check. The manufacturer presents mattresses as optional add-ons, so the crib base alone should not be treated as a package that includes one.

The later setups are toddler bed, daybed and full-size bed. DaVinci identifies M12599 as the separate toddler-bed rail and M5789 as the separate twin/full-size-bed kit; its page also lists the M26058B universal bunkie board separately for the full-size bed. The M27201 manual specifies at least 15 months and no more than 50 pounds for the toddler-bed user. That limit is not a general rating for the original crib or for every later bed. When a conversion is planned, use the exact M27201 manual and the model-specific accessory code rather than assuming that a visually similar Shea rail fits.

Materials claims and what they do not establish

The product page describes New Zealand pine plus TSCA-compliant engineered wood, says the wood is FSC-certified, and claims GREENGUARD Gold certification. These are manufacturer-published claims in the reviewed source set; they are not an independent materials audit, certification lookup or emissions test performed for this review. The sources also do not establish a unique durability advantage from the decorative two-tone finish. For a buyer, the documented benefit is more about the tall, paneled appearance and the supported conversion options than a quantified performance distinction.

The exact M27201 code query saved from SaferProducts.gov returned an empty list. That limited product-code search is not a guarantee about a specific crib, older version or secondhand unit. Inspect the label, fasteners and current instructions for any pre-owned item, and check current recall resources for its exact model and date before use.

Is the footprint worth the longer path?

Shea M27201 suits a household that wants a full-size crib and values the tall two-tone panel design plus a documented later toddler/daybed/full-size-bed route. It is not a narrow-fit choice: its 30.5-inch listed width exceeds a 30-inch product ceiling and first passes the finder's half-inch grid at 31 inches. The 45-inch overall height may also deserve a ceiling and visual-proportion check. These manufacturer dimensions are not a room-layout plan.

The main tradeoff is that its visual furniture detail comes with a heavier frame and multiple separately sold parts. A conversion count does not mean those rails, mattress or full-size bed support board are in the base crib box. Compared with the Colby GROW F11980, Shea has no documented bassinet or wheel-bearing setup; compared with the Colby F11951, it has no built-in trundle in the reviewed M27201 listing. Treat the Shea 5-in-1 as a separate model: check its own dimensions, included parts and supported conversions.

This is a source-based assessment of the exact M27201 page and manual, not a hands-on assembly, safety or finish test. Before purchase, match the SKU suffix, verify the mattress and every conversion accessory in the offer, and measure the full 55-by-30.5-inch footprint with room for access and later assembly work.
